Tucson, Ariz. (February 6, 2020) – With the Cologuard Classic PGA TOUR Champions event less than three weeks away, the field continues to take shape with some of the biggest names in golf already committing to play in the tournament, including 2019 tournament champion Mark O’Meara, 2019 Charles Schwab Cup winner Scott McCarron, Cologuard ambassador Jerry Kelly, 40-time PGA TOUR Champions winner Bernhard Langer, as well as the talented and charismatic Miguel Angel Jiménez. The Cologuard Classic will be played February 26-March 1, 2020 at Omni Tucson National’s Catalina Course. A field of 78 players will vie for the $1.7 million purse with a first-place prize of $255,000.
PGA TOUR Champions golfers have until Friday, February 21 to commit to play in the Cologuard Classic. Therefore, the field will continue to change as players with higher priority rankings commit to play in the tournament.
Mark O’Meara returns to Tucson to defend his 2019 Cologuard Classic title. With last year’s win, the 63- year old O’Meara ended an eight-year victory drought and became the fourth-oldest winner (then age 62) in PGA TOUR Champions history.
2019 Charles Schwab Cup winner Scott McCarron is coming off his best season on the PGA TOUR Champions, after collecting three wins, three second-place finishes and 14 Top 10 finishes. His consistent play the throughout the year helped McCarron secure the season-long Charles Schwab Cup points race title. His T2 at the 2019 Cologuard Classic was his best finish in Tucson.
Cologuard ambassador Jerry Kelly is coming off a stellar 2019 PGA TOUR Champions season which included three victories and 14 Top 10 finishes. His 2019 victories included the American Family Insurance Championship, The Ally Challenge and the SAS Championship. He finished second in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup points race.
Bernhard Langer has won the Charles Schwab Cup Championship four of the last six years. His 2019 PGA TOUR Champions season included two wins (Oasis Championship and the Senior Open Championship) and 12 Top 10 finishes in 22 starts. At the 2019 Cologuard Classic, Langer was forced to withdraw due to injury.
The always charismatic Miguel Angel Jiménez already has a win on the 2020 PGA TOUR Champions, winning the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai on Hawaii in January. In 2019, Jiménez had two wins (Chubb Classic and Dominion Energy Charity Classic) and finished T20 at the Cologuard Classic.

The 2020 tournament marks the third year of the Cologuard Classic, named after Wisconsin-based Exact Sciences’ noninvasive at-home colon cancer screening test for average-risk individuals 45 years or older, and the sixth year the Conquistadores have partnered with the PGA TOUR Champions. Tournament activities will take place February 23 – March 1 at Omni Tucson National Resort and will feature a 78- player field competing for a $1.7 million purse with $255,000 and 255 Charles Schwab Cup points for the winner. The no-cut format includes three days of competition (Friday-Sunday) with players participating in pro-am events on Wednesday and Thursday. ABOUT COLOGUARD
Cologuard was approved by the FDA in August 2014, and results from Exact Sciences' prospective 90-site, point-in-time, 10,000-patient pivotal trial were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in March 2014. Cologuard is included in the American Cancer Society's (2018) colorectal cancer screening guidelines and the recommendations of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (2016) and National Comprehensive Cancer Network (2016). Cologuard is indicated to screen adults 45 years of age and older who are at average risk for colorectal cancer by detecting certain DNA markers and blood in the stool. Do not use Cologuard if you have had precancer, have inflammatory bowel disease and certain hereditary syndromes, or have a personal or family history of colorectal cancer. Cologuard is not a replacement for colonoscopy in high risk patients. Cologuard performance in adults ages 45-49 is estimated based on a large clinical study of patients 50 and older. Cologuard performance in repeat testing has not been evaluated.
The Cologuard test result should be interpreted with caution. A positive test result does not confirm the presence of cancer. Patients with a positive test result should be referred for diagnostic colonoscopy. A negative test result does not confirm the absence of cancer. Patients with a negative test result should discuss with their doctor when they need to be tested again.
